I suck at updating
WOO so back from second road trip of the summer on friday, but I'm just now getting around to actually writing about it. Yes i know, i suck at updating, see title. I am well aware of just how much i suck at updating so this is prolly going to be a long one and I'll prolly end up LJ cutting it later, when I have time to go dig it up again. I can never remember what gets the = sign and what goes in quotes. Le sigh. On to road trip number 1 also know as the romantic getaway because some kid over heard Kelly and I talking about it and asked if we were going on a romantic getaway, with saddler, and his wife. And kids. And parents. Yep clearly screams romantic getaway to me.

So a few days after school got out the entire Saddler clan (Dru, charity, Sas, Isa, Sarah - Dru's mom, and Doyle - Dru's dad) and Kelly and I went on a road trip to CO to help clean out the Saddler cabin and whatnots. Basically kelly and I were there to help tear shit down if needed, or watch kids if that was needed. Saddler parents were in a different car but the rest of us all went in Saddler's Arcadia. Which is quite spacious until you have a screaming two year old. Or a screaming 6 month old. Or a very whiney and complaining Charity. Or being in the front seat while Kelly drives. Overall though wasn't a bad road trip. The girls didn't get screamy on the way out, on the way back to KS they did but out they weren’t bad. So we get into CO pretty late Saturday night. We unloaded and then went to find shakes at the Burger King. Since it was right next door we figured we would just walk, unfortunately we forgot that it was late at night and the lobby was closed. Well we weren’t going to go get the car to go through the drive through so we just walked through the drive through. Or Saddler did, we let him scare the hell out of the workers while we stood back and took pictures. Then to our dismay the shake machine either didn’t work or had just been shut down. I don’t remember which. So we got ice cream pies instead. Then wondered back to the hotel after much thanks to the drive through lady, and had a bourbon or two, ate ice cream, and went to bed. YAY SLEEP!

So we got up the next morning at like 9 or something, had breakfast and then piled back into the car and headed an hour into the mountains. and I do be up into the mountains. I got to cross the continental divide which, I'm ashamed to admit, i didn't remember at all what it was until Saddler told me. But then it was quite cool and I'm happy that I got to drive over it and take pictures with it. Pictures will eventually be up on both facebook and myspace but we have to get Saddler's father's day present together first then they'll got up. So we drive into a little backwoodsy area to a little cabin. And then we set to work, we disassembled pretty much everything we could and then proceeded to haul it all out. Which would have been infinitely easier had we had the right tools but we didn’t. No Allen wrenches and no crescent wrenches that actually fit the nuts we were trying to take off. I wanted my tool kit, and I swear I am never leaving home on a romantic getaway again without it. All in all, Sunday was a pretty long day of riding in a car and hauling crap. Especially because it kept raining and heaven forbid we should load anything in the rain. Which I sort of understand, seeing as a fair amount of the junk was wooden, or furniture. But still it made for a lot of inside work, followed by a lot of sitting around. When we finally got everything loaded in between raining spurts, Saddler, Doyle, and Kelly, were outside trying to figure out how to cover everything up appropriately and tie it all down. I was inside because I was being of NO help outside other to stand around and pretend like I was being helpful. They totally had it covered so I went in to hang with the kiddies. Well then it started to downpour, but the guys stayed out side to get everything tied down properly. So from the inside I decided to amuse Kelly, who was part of the awkward standing around outside fiasco. This cabin happens to have a large picture window that stared straight out to everyone loading up the trailer. So I decided that awkward hand signals were in order and that got a good laugh out of Saddler and Kelly. They knew what I was doing and jumped right into to randomly signaling for emus, or large truckers. After that, I decided it would be more fun if I flashed Kelly my bra. Don’t ask, it made sense at the time, and I wait until both married men weren’t looking thank you so much. That got a good giggle out of Kelly and a very angry face out of Saddler that he missed it. So Kelly reciprocated, again making sure the married men weren’t watching. Which dissolved us both into a fit of giggles. Soon after that they got everything tied down and the rain stopped. So we packed it all up and piled back in the car.

We then drove the hour back to the storage place, where we unloaded everything and then managed to cram 4 of us into the front bench of a truck. For those of you that know the little s-10 I use to drive, it was bigger than that thank god, but I was very awkwardly sitting on Kelly’s lap who was partially sitting on Saddler’s lap who was trying to not awkwardly sit on his dad’s lap. It was a very fun but partially frightening ride. Mostly because with Kelly in the car we figured we were going to get pulled over. But we made it.

From there we all decided we were hungry and food took precedent over showers. Since the ones this morning were cold as shit, we were hoping that it would be warmer tonight, and started to argue over who gets the first shower when we get back to the hotel. But first dinner at Burger King. So we’re eating and Sassy is crying for someone to come play in the play place with her. Well she’s not quote tall enough to get up the steps herself so she does need someone to help her up. Kelly and I, being the SWEET people that we are, subjected ourselves to the tiny ass playplace tubes to help Sassy up. Saddler, the cunning bastard, decides that he’s going to sneak out and steal the hot water while we’re playing with his kid. Lucky for him there was still hot water left when we got there. So everyone showered, and was feed, so we did what all people would do. We watched deadliest warrior and zonked out for the night.

Then got up about the same time on Monday, ate breakfast, and piled back into the car. This time we stopped at the continental divide! There was snow on the ground. And we were like 30-45 minutes ahead of Saddler’s dad who had the key to the cabin. YAY time killing. But we have some cool pictures and Sassy had a good time. Then back into the car and keep driving to the cabin. The drive, while a bit long, is really pretty, we got to twist up through the mountains and the go more or less off-roading to get to the cabin. YAY mud and dirt roads. We got to the cabin, still ahead of the key and did what any responsible adults would do. We broke in. Luckily it was easier that it sounds. Because they heat the cabin with a propane heater (I think) the window was still slightly ajar where the hose ran in to the heater. So Saddler opened the window, popped out the wood holding the hose (that’s what she said) and proceeded to launch himself into the window. The photos for that are fabulous! But he was in, and shortly there after so were we. Then we had to rehook the heater back up and turn it on. Saddler went up to examine what needed to come out of the attic while Kelly and I were incredibly useful in making sure the heater really was producing heat by standing over it. There are some good pictures that go with that as well. As soon as Saddler figured it out, we started to haul out wood. I had a good time giggling at Kelly who would jump for the lumber because she wasn’t tall enough to just reach up and grab it. About the time we got all the lumber out of the attic, Doyle showed up and we started cleaning out the cabin and dragging any of the remaining wood stuff out to the pile we had created. After the cabin was mostly cleaned out we got to move the entire pile of wood to the other end of the property. Let me tell you how much fun that was. And then joy of joys, we got to pull up porch wood. And then hammer out the nails. And then haul it to the other wood pile. Eventually everything got taken care of like Doyle and Sarah wanted and we went for a short walk up the trail to get a couple of good shots of the mountains. Then again piling back in the car, and driving back to the hotel. Where the muscles unloaded the back of Doyles truck, and then we all went for dinner. Dinner was tasty! Then back to the hotel, where everyone took showers because we smelled. Then again we did what any responible adult would do, we had a bourbon, and watched TV for like 3 hours. We watched land of the lost, and then got into an argument about time travel thanks to Saddler. Apparently Kelly and I are on totally opposite ends of the spectrum on that one. She thinks its cool (assuming time is linear) for you to go back in time and meet yourself. But it isn’t okay (assuming that they exist) to go to a parallel and meet yourself. I totally blame Saddler for that whole argument. And then we went to bed.

Tuesday was pretty unexciting, we drove home, and had a screamy Sas most of the way. When we got home, Kelly and I did laundry and slept because we were getting up Wednesday to drive to Chicago.

So I got my ass outta bed on Wednesday morning, went to the bank, got my prescription refilled and got all my shit loaded up by the appropriate time. Kelly on the other hand was not. And continued to not be on time for the next like 3 hours. So instead of leaving at a decent time we left at like noon. Guys it’s at least 15 hours from here to Chicago. There was no way in hell we were making it now. Angry face. But whatever we stopped somewhere out in nowhere, and then we went and visited Kelly’s friend in Aurora, then on to Virginia’s. Yay sisterbear. Then I stayed and Kelly went down to her step-grandmother’s for the night. That was good times. And that’s about as much as I feel like typing for the moment. Tune in next time for more adventures.

Wow. Quite the adventurous trip. Only possible because you don't have schoolkids to deal with, yeh?

Looking forward to the next installment. Also, the syntax on it is [lj-cut][/lj-cut] for just a standard "Read More" or [lj-cut text="Custom cut text here, yo."][/lj-cut] With the appropriate less-than/greater-than instead of the placeholder braces I'm using.

you are my hero. I never use LJ cuts enough to always remember how it goes together exactly!

S'okay. I rarely use them at all, actually, but I do remember the syntax.
